Accident Report
July 22, 2026, Jamekia Gibson was killed as the result of an 18-wheeler accident at around 4:00 p.m. along I-20.
Initial statements about the crash say that the incident happened at the US Highway 67 overpass along westbound lanes of I-20.
Outlets say that Jamekia “Mekia” Gibson was in a vehicle going along I-20. Ahead, an 18-wheeler was parked along westbound lanes. Somehow, the vehicle Mekia Gibson was in crashed into the parked tractor-trailer.
Due to the accident, reports say that Mekia Gibson sustained fatal injuries. There were no other reported injuries. At this time, additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
People might be quick to write off any situation where a driver rear-ends another vehicle—especially if that other vehicle was parked at the time. However, there are some situations like this where an 18-wheeler is sticking out into traffic, isn’t properly marked, or unnecessarily created an obstacle by stopping for unacceptable reasons (like running out of gas or so the driver can eat or nap).
I’m not saying that happened here, but it’s not apparent one way or the other. So, my hope is that investigators are mapping out the scene, pulling electronic data, and carefully reconstructing the circumstances leading up to the crash. That way, they can help show how avoidable this crash was and if something potentially beyond the victim’s control led to the accident. The sooner these steps are taken, the more evidence will likely be available to preserve.
