Accident Report

Marshall, TX — May 15, 2026, Jakayla Jones was injured in a truck accident at about 3:45 a.m. on Interstate 20.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a westbound 2026 Honda Civic collided with the trailer of a semi-truck that was pulling onto the highway near mile marker 617.

A passenger in the Honda, 20-year-old Mississippi resident Jakayla Jones, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report. The driver suffered minor injuries.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Harrison County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It is not clear at this point how this collision happened. Did the truck try to enter the highway when it wasn’t safe? Was there any way for the Honda to avoid the collision? Authorities must consider these questions as they work to reconstruct this accident.

Witness statements, physical evidence, data from the vehicles and any available video footage likely will form the basis of the investigation, but cell phone records also could show what each driver was doing at the time of the crash.

If investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, an outside expert likely will be needed to examine the vehicles since most law enforcement agencies lack the time or training for such inspections, in my experience.

A thorough investigation should answer any lingering questions the injured passenger and her family have about this accident.
