How Did This Accident Occur?

People might see this all as open-and-shut. I wouldn’t fault anyone for thinking this was just a pedestrian being where they shouldn’t have been, leading to an unsuspecting driver hitting them. That could be what happened here.

But considering a man lost his life here, it’s only reasonable to ensure that his loved ones get the whole story. That means considering all possible factors. Was there some kind of emergency going on? Was alcohol a factor here? Was the man trying to wave down traffic? Were they on the shoulder, and the driver was trying to pull over? Likely or not, an accident reconstruction should be able to rule out these kinds of things. If authorities are working to do that, that would be good to hear.

However, I’ve had many independent investigations find that authorities were more focused on blaming a victim than actually considering all the evidence carefully. It’s more than reasonable for a family to see something like that and want another set of eyes looking things over to ensure nothing important slipped through the cracks.
