Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Following any serious car accident, it’s important to keep a few questions in mind.
Are authorities being thorough with the investigations, or is it being treated as a low priority? Do the investigations include inspections of the vehicles for potential defects? Is electronic data being secured from the vehicles, cellphones, and any nearby cameras which may have had a view of the road?
These are just a few of the questions a proper accident reconstruction should answer. However, they’re the ones that can help people gauge if they should consider bringing in independent investigators. If authorities can provide satisfactory answers, that’s generally a sign the investigations are in good hands. If authorities come up short, though, that can be a sign there should be another set of eyes looking things over.
