How Did This Accident Occur?

I’ve been in this line of business for over three decades. In that time, I’ve had the opportunity to analyze thousands of car accidents. As far as we know, driver error—whether it was caused by distraction, fatigue impairment, or something else entirely—is still on the table as a possible cause. It’s true that construction zones can be tricky to navigate in the best circumstances, let a lone in the dark of night. On top of that, there is the possibility that something went wrong with the Mercedes-Benz mechanically. What if, for example, it was dealing with a steering mechanism problem?

Additionally, I would hope investigators are meticulous enough to look into the safety systems of the Focus. Did its airbags deploy correctly and in a timely manner? Did the seatbelt function as it was designed? If not, then there is possibility that the victim’s injuries ended up being more sever than they might otherwise have been. An in-depth vehicle inspection would be able to bring to light any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the accident and its outcome.

Understand, these types of inspections are not routine in most accident investigations, so a special request might have to be made. If the authorities don’t get one done, for whatever reasons, then a third party investigation can always be called upon to take that step, instead. That way all the bases are covered. Besides, it never hurts to have a second perspective go over things in order to ensure that nothing important falls through the cracks.

In the end, the people affected by this accident deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding of how it happened, as well as why. That kind of clarity just can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.
