Accident Report
Ontario, CA — March 29, 2026, Hye Kim and Carlos Soto were killed and several others were injured in a truck accident just before midnight on the 10 Freeway/Interstate 10.
Authorities said a semi-truck and six other vehicles were involved in a crash on the westbound San Bernardino Freeway near Fourth Street. A witness reportedly said the truck “split one of the vehicles in half,” while several other vehicles were damaged.
The driver of one of the vehicles, 52-year-old Pomona resident Hye Kim, and a passenger in another vehicle, 26-year-old Montclair resident Carlos Soto, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities.
Two other people were hospitalized, one with critical injuries and another with moderate injuries, authorities said, but it is not clear how they were involved in the crash.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the San Bernardino crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Given the number of vehicles reportedly involved in this crash, it’s going to take some time for authorities to sort out what happened. That goes well with my usual warning about rushing to conclusions after an accident. Assumptions and guesswork are no substitute for facts after any crash, much less one with a semi-truck and multiple other vehicles like this one.
Investigators will scrutinize things like data from the truck and other vehicles and available video footage of the crash to piece together how all of these vehicles came together on the 10 Freeway, but it likely will take a deeper dive to determine if it was caused by a fatigued or distracted driver, some kind of hazard on the highway or a mechanical issue with one of the vehicles.
