How Did This Accident Occur?
When a car drives off the road at 2:30 in the morning, it’s natural for people to assume it’s a matter of a driver who is fatigued, distracted or even impaired. But I’ve been part of enough crash investigations in my career to know that assumptions are no match for facts.
Investigators can gather the facts needed to reconstruct this crash by poring over witness statements, evidence from the scene, data from the Volkswagen’s engine control module and any available video footage. Cell phone records may show if the driver was distracted, but a qualified expert may be needed to conduct a forensic examination of the car if authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to the crash.
Each of these steps is about finding answers for those affected by this crash. They deserve to know as much as possible about how this accident happened.
