Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

People sometimes jump to conclusions about house fires, assuming the source has to trace back to something the residents did wrong. That’s obviously an important possibility to investigate, but there are all kinds of other possible factors, as well. Faulty wiring, gas leaks, botched installation or repair work, poorly maintained rental properties—likely or not, it’s important to rule these things out and get the full picture. If nothing else, the victim’s loved ones deserve answers.
