UPDATE (March 29, 2024): Recent reports have been released which clarify some of what happened leading up to and during this accident. According to these reports, a 41-year-old man was riding a bicycle northbound on Jeanette Street at the South 14th Street intersection when the accident occurred. The northbound bicycle was struck by a westbound Dodge Magnum occupied by a 28-year-old man in the right-most lane of 14th Street. The bike came to rest in the middle of that same lane just west of the intersection. The pedestrian came to rest on the northwest corner of the intersection, just off of the roadway. The Dodge allegedly failed to stop and render aid of any sort to the victim, fleeing the scene. Reports state that the man who had been behind the wheel of the motor vehicle was later found. The pedestrian had incurred fatal injuries.

According to authorities, the accident took place in the vicinity of the South 14h Street and Jeanette Street intersection.

The causal factors that led to the incident are still unclear. Officials indicate that emergency personnel arrived on scene to find a 41-year-old man unresponsive in the north shoulder of South 14th Street with his bicycle not far away. He had incurred reportedly fatal injuries as a result of the accident and was declared deceased at the scene.

The person in the vehicle that had struck and killed the pedestrian had purportedly fled the scene of the accident, neglecting to stop and render aid of any sort to the victim. A suspect in this hit-and-run accident has since been arrested and charged, according to reports.
