How Did This Accident Occur?
I took a look at the most up to date images of this stretch of road I could find. If it’s true that this happened when the eastbound vehicle turned left toward some apartments, it seems very likely that driver failed to yield. That’s usually the result of distracted driving, which is why I expect just about every car accident investigation to look at cellphone data first thing. Texting, watching videos, social media, livestreams—people do all kinds of things instead of pay attention to the road.
That being said, that’s just a common factor I would expect a proper accident reconstruction to dig into. I would also expect an investigation to look into uncommon possible factors, as well. Just as a hypothetical, was the eastbound vehicle using some kind of automatic driving feature that failed to stop for oncoming traffic? That’s a growing concern these days as more vehicles implement this type of technology. Or, could there be features on the median or along Buckingham that block visibility? If so, that could help explain why the oncoming driver decided to make the turn.
Likely or not, these factors should be investigated and at least ruled out. That way, the victim’s loved ones will know they’re getting the full story and that responsibility will ultimately be put where it’s supposed to be.
