Accident Report
Amarillo, TX — March 18, 2026, Habtom Equbuo was injured in a suspected drunk driver accident at about 7:30 p.m. on SW 58th Avenue.
A preliminary accident report indicates that an eastbound 2017 Toyota Camry was slowing down to turn right onto South Milam Street when it was hit from behind by a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado.
Toyota driver Habtom Equbuo, 56, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.
The Chevrolet driver allegedly had been drinking before the crash, the report states, but he is not facing any charges at this time. He and his passenger were not injured in the crash.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Randall County crash.
How Did This Accident Occur?
The initial explanation of this crash is pretty straight forward, but investigators still should look into whether the Toyota had working brake lights or if the Chevrolet had an issue with its brakes. If tests prove the pickup driver was intoxicated, they also should try to figure out where he’d been drinking.
It’s one thing if he had been drinking at home, but if he had been served at a bar or restaurant when he was obviously intoxicated, that establishment could share responsibility under Texas law for the injuries he caused after he got behind the wheel. I don’t claim to know if that’s what happened in this instance, but it bears looking into so the injured man and his family know everyone who may be accountable for this crash.
