Accident Report
April 29, 2026, Gurpreet Singh was killed due to a tractor-trailer accident at around 4:00 p.m. off of Belmont Avenue.
Authorities said that the accident took place at a repair yard off the corner of Belmont Avenue and Lafayette Avenue.
According to officials, 21-year-old Gurpreet Singh, a mechanic, was working on a tractor-trailer at the time. Initial reports say that Gurpreet Singh somehow became pinned between a truck and a trailer as the two were being connected. Due to this, Gurpreet Singh sustained fatal injuries.
No other injuries were reported. It’s unclear if anyone else was involved in the accident. Investigations are ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
I’ve seen many accidents where people become caught between a truck and a trailer. A lot of the time, it’s a truck driver forgetting to put the brakes on before disconnecting or reconnecting the two parts. Other times, trucks may have a defect or unknown issue that causes brakes to fail or the truck to slip out of gear. Also, yards like this may have drivers and mechanics working alongside each other. As such, there are times when a truck driver might accidentally back up their truck without realizing a mechanic is between the truck and the trailer.
Regardless of what the scenario was, it’s important to preserve as much evidence as possible going forward. That includes any possible camera footage, phone data, company training and safety records, procedures at the business, and the logs and records of any driver who may be involved. The sooner investigators work to preserve evidence, the clearer the answers will be for the victim’s loved ones.
