Accident Report

August 25, 2026, ten people sustained injuries following a GRTC bus accident at 10:00 a.m. at the Downtown Transfer Station.

Initial reports on the accident say that it happened at the Downtown Transfer Station located off the corner Leigh Street and 8th Street.

According to officials, a GRTC bus somehow went over median while at the transfer station. As a result, the bus struck a waiting area and a second bus. Due to this, at least ten people had injuries that reportedly were not serious. There were multiple victims from both buses and the waiting area.

Right now, the cause of the accident remains unconfirmed.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Usually, an accident like this is going to raise red flags for someone being on their phone, driving under the influence, fatigue, or inexperience with the vehicle they’re driving. These are all worth looking into. Of course, commercial vehicles like transit buses can also bring up unique concerns. For example, was this a mechanical issue related to poor maintenance? Does the GRTC have a history of buses with mechanical issues going unaddressed? Hopefully authorities are looking into more than just the common possible factors surrounding the accident.
