UPDATE (August 2, 2024): Recent reports have been released which clarify some of the details of what happened leading up to and during this accident. According to these reports, 45-year-old Gordon Yang was traveling on an Yamaha motorcycle on East 45th Street in the left of two westbound lanes. Reports state that the motorcycle entered a curve in the roadway, then somehow lost control. It then crashed into a curbed island at the Duval Street intersection and fell to its side before sliding through a parking lot.

My hope is authorities are taking the investigations seriously. Frankly, I see too many situations where people brush off motorcycle wrecks because they can’t imagine a rider might fall victim to something beyond their control. Experienced, unbiased investigators wouldn’t rule out anything, likely or not, without clear evidence. My hope is investigators here exercise that level of care, as well.
Austin, TX — July 9, 2024, Gordon Yang was killed following a motorcycle accident shortly after 11:00 p.m. along 45th Street.
According to authorities, the accident took place in the vicinity of the 45th Street and Duval Street intersection.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the motorcycle was involved in a single-vehicle accident. Yang incurred critical injuries as a result of the wreck; he was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment. However, he was ultimately unable to overcome the severity of his injuries, having been declared deceased on July 12, 2024.
