Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With a multi-car accident like this, the scene can get pretty chaotic. That makes it even more important to know how thorough authorities have been in their investigations. To be rather blunt, I’ve seen a lot of departments get the facts wrong because they didn’t prioritize accident reconstruction. As a result, officers lacked either the time, tools, training, or some combination thereof to do the job properly.
That’s one of the many reasons independent accident reconstructionists are helpful. Since they don’t have all kinds of other responsibilities to divide their attention, they can prioritize recreating the events of the crash and preserving vital evidence that will help paint the full picture.
Sometimes, those efforts can reinforce what a proper police investigation already covered. A lot of the time, though, they can bring to light new details authorities overlooked. Either way, the end result can be a family getting the answers they deserve.
