Accident Report

Tyler, TX — August 16, 2026, one person was killed and Gilberto Sanchez and two others were injured in a truck accident at about 7:45 p.m. on U.S. Highway 271.

Authorities said a southbound 2004 GMC Yukon crashed into the back of a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck that was stopped in the road near F.M. 2015.

A GMC passenger, a 47-year-old man whose name has not been made public yet was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities, while the 35-year-old driver and passenger Gilberto Sanchez, 58, were seriously injured. Two other men in the SUV suffered minor injuries.

The truck driver, who was out of his vehicle, also suffered serious injuries in the crash, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Smith County crash at this time.
