Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Police mentioned the make, model, and color of a vehicle of interest. Hopefully those details will help people identify the truck; someone might see it drive by, for example, or remember seeing it in the area that night. Knowing what to look for could even help body shops know to call a tip line if a green pickup with suspicious damage rolls in.

Who- or whatever finally helps bring in the suspect, once they’re in custody I hope investigators will find out what they were thinking. Sometimes sheer panic makes people do regrettable things, but over the years we’ve seen a lot of drivers flee the scene to try and hide something else they didn’t want found—drugs, speeding, drunk driving, warrants, you name it. Only time and careful investigation could say if any of those played a part in Dallas, but one thing is certain: That young man’s loved ones deserve real answers. Anything beyond that would depend on what those answers are.
