Brownsville, TX — December 26, 2023, Gary Sturgill was killed and one other person was injured in a truck accident shortly before 9:00 a.m. along Highway 48.
According to authorities, 22-year-old Gary Sturgill and one other man were traveling in a northeast bound SUV on Brownsville-Port Isabel Highway, Highway 48, in the vicinity some distance east of the Texas 550 intersection when the accident took place.
The SUV allegedly experienced tire failure, causing the vehicle to veer left of center and into the southwest bound lane of the highway. This resulted in a head-on collision with an oncoming 18-wheeler. Both of the occupants of the SUV were reportedly critically injured in the accident; they were transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate care. Sturgill, however, later succumbed to his injuries, having been declared deceased at the hospital. No other injuries have been reported
