Doña Ana County, NM — August 17, 2025, Gabriel Gonzales was killed as the result of a semi-trailer accident around 8:30 a.m. on State Road 26.
New Mexico State Police say that the accident happened just west of Hatch.
It appears that 18-year-old Gabriel Gonzales was in a Cadillac going eastbound. A semi-trailer was going westbound. For reasons not confirmed right now, the Cadillac and the semi-trailer crashed head-on.
As a result of the accident, Gabriel Gonzales was killed. There did not appear to be any other injuries. At this time, additional details are unavailable.

Anytime a crash involves a teenage driver, my concern is if authorities are really giving the accident the attention it deserves. Unfortunately, a lot of people see a young driver and just assume the victim must have been doing something wrong. Like any serious accident, though, it’s important to consider all possible factors—even unlikely ones. From vehicle defects to tire blowouts to road hazards, doing right by a grieving family means ensuring they’re getting the full story. Whether or not those steps are being taken here remains to be seen.
