Mesquite, TX — October 13, 2025, a Friendswood man was injured due to a truck accident at around 6:40 p.m. along Interstate 30.
Investigators said that the incident took place in the area of Gus Thomasson Road along westbound lanes of the interstate.
In their initial statements, officials said that a 22-year-old Friendswood man was in a Ford Mustang going along I-30. A semi-truck was going the same direction. Authorities say the truck driver was inattentive, resulting in a collision with the Mustang.
The Mustang driver reportedly had serious injuries due to the accident. No other injuries were reported. At this time, additional details are unavailable.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Authorities say inattention was a factor here. Is that their suspicion, or did they collect evidence to verify that? A lot of people think it would be open-and-shut, since the driver was likely on their phone. Even something like that, though, can present significant hurdles for investigators.
I’ve handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases. Trucking companies don’t just hand over cellphone records if they don’t have to. In fact, some will go to great lengths not to. I recall a case we had where a company insisted their driver didn’t even own a phone. I certainly wasn’t buying that, and sure enough a long deposition got the driver to trip over his own stories and admit he owned a phone. That allowed us to get a court order for the records, and we were able to prove the truck driver was watching adult videos at the time of the crash (yes, seriously).
I’m not saying that happened here, necessarily. However, it’s a good example of why steps should be taken early on to preserve evidence—especially electronic evidence that can be lost, deleted, or altered. If authorities did that here, that’s good. If not, there may need to be additional steps to definitively say who and what caused this crash.
