Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

While it’s not unusual for there to be scarce public information about a serious commercial vehicle accident, the concern it whether or not authorities know more behind the scenes. It would surprise folks who often families come to me following a serious truck accident, and they’re as lost as anyone about what went wrong. Why does this happen?

Simply put, authorities do not always prioritize accident investigations. Even serious accidents like this can slip through the cracks if officers like the time, tools, or training needed for a proper investigation. That’s when people reasonably decide to look for independent professionals who can help pick up the slack.

Sometimes, independent investigations show authorities did a good job, and they were just bad at communicating. A lot of the time, though, they can bring new details to light that initial investigations missed. At the end of the day, the priority should be to get victims and families the answers they deserve. I can’t help but wonder if that ever happened here.
