UPDATE (May 16, 2025): It is our sad duty to report that Erica Garza has succumbed to injuries she sustained in this incident.

Austin, TX — May 11, 2025, Erica Garza and her boyfriend were injured following a hit-and-run accident at around 5:00 a.m. on East 7th Street.

According to initial details in the news, the collision occurred at the intersection of East 7th and the I-35 service road.

Investigators said that 20-year-old Erica Garza and her boyfriend were walking at the time. While doing so, it appears a vehicle struck both of them, then fled the scene. Due to the collision, Erica Garza was critically injured; doctors later advised that the severity of her injuries meant she was unlikely to recover. The male victim was less severely injured and is expected to recover in time.

It appears one person in the news was quoted saying they saw a blue sedan leaving the area. Right now, additional details regarding a suspect driver remain under investigation.

With recent reports stating authorities have identified the person they allege was responsible for leaving the scene of the accident, have they also begun to look into why that driver may have run? Cell phone records, witness statements, GPS data, vehicle data, and security footage could help shed light on the minutes and hours leading up to the collision. Even things like credit card statements or receipts could even show things like whether or not the driver had been drinking. At the end of the day, there are loved ones out there who still deserve answers.
