How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people likely would assume one-vehicle crash like this was the result of driver error or fatigue, but I’ve been involved in enough accident investigations during my career to know that it always better to wait until the investigation is complete before reaching any conclusions.

What is another vehicle forced the Chevrolet off the road? What if the SUV had an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? These possibilities should be considered by authorities as they investigation this crash. That means gathering witness statements, evidence from the scene, data from the SUV and any available video of this accident to piece together what happened.

If authorities suspect a mechanical defect contributed to this crash, an independent expert likely will be needed to examine the Chevrolet before it is scrapped or repaired. In my experience, most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such examinations, but the injured driver and her family deserve answers to any lingering questions they may have about this accident.
