Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

While additional details can’t be confirmed right now, authorities mentioned alcohol as a possible factor. If that’s true, then it could make this crash a lot more complex than a typical car accident. I have to wonder if authorities will be able to get those involved the answers they deserve.

The reason I say that is because a lot of alcohol-related accidents involve drivers who were illegally over-served by an alcohol provider. If they over-serve someone, and that leads to them getting themselves or someone else hurt, the alcohol provider can be on the hook for their role in the accident.

Unfortunately, across hundreds of cases I’ve handled against said negligent providers, I rarely see authorities look into that sort of thing on their own. It’s often up to independent investigations to bring all the facts to light. Authorities here could prove to be more thorough than usual, but it’s frankly something experience taught me never to take for granted. There could still be a lot more to this story the victims and families involved have yet to hear.
