Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
One of the main challenges with single-vehicle wrecks is people tend to jump to conclusions. Only one person was involved, so they must be responsible, right? That’s just not true. It’s important to look at all the evidence and consider even unlikely possible scenarios. Tire failure, vehicle defects, road hazards, hit-and-runs, poor lighting or signage, medical conditions—it takes clear evidence to rule these things out. So if authorities have worked to let the evidence speak for itself here, that would be a good sign. However, I get more calls about single-vehicle wrecks than just about any other type of wreck. People want to be sure their side of the story is told fairly. Doing so usually requires thorough independent investigations, and it would be unusual if the same were true here.
