Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With a crash like this, folks may assume everything would be straight-forward. But it’s important investigators are able to anticipate even highly unusual circumstances, as they can easily slip through the cracks. For example, there was a case a while back where a woman crashed into the back of a truck and was seriously injured. Authorities were quick to move on, but independent investigations found that her injuries were unusually severe given the relatively mild nature of the collision. A closer look showed that she actually had a defective airbag, so regardless of what caused the wreck, her injuries were actually due to the defect. Maybe nothing so unusual happened here, but it’s important for there to be evidence to rule out those sorts of possibilities. Did authorities ever do that?
