How Did This Accident Occur?

Authorities said the Volvo semi-truck was speeding when it crashed into another truck near Alanreed, but what if a mechanical problem caused unexpected acceleration or brake failure? That may be an unlikely possibility, but it is one that investigators must consider nonetheless.

A qualified expert should examine both trucks in a laboratory setting to determine if they had any mechanical problems before the crash. If there were any problems, the trucking company or maintenance provider may have some accountability for this crash.

Commercial vehicle accidents are complex, so they warrant a thorough investigation. Data from both truck’s engine control modules will help, along with available dashcam footage. Many trucking companies these days equip their fleets with cameras.
