Accident Report
July 4, 2026, Edward Taylor was injured after an alleged drunk driver accident that happened around 5:32 p.m. along Highway 66.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened between Caddo Mills and Greenville near the intersection of Highway 66 and County Road 2142.
It appears that 84-year-old Edward Taylor and two others were in a Dodge Ram going southwest along the highway. Another pickup was going the opposite direction when it went on the wrong side of the road. Then, that pickup crashed into the Dodge as well as a Nissan Versa going southwest.
Due to the accident, Edward Taylor sustained serious injuries. Authorities did not report any other injuries. Also, they allege that the wrong-way driver in the second pickup was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. They recommended a charge of intoxication assault.
How Did This Accident Occur?
If the allegations here are true, then alcohol would certainly explain why a driver would get on the wrong side of the road. However, the driver allegedly being drunk might only be part of the story. Let me give you an example of why I say that.
I handled this case not long ago where a family got hit head-on by a drunk driver. That driver was on his way home from a bar and turned the wrong way down a service road. Afterward, the family asked us to look into things. We retraced the driver’s steps back to the bar where he’d been taking advantage of a happy hour along with some co-workers. There, evidence showed that the bar unlawfully over-served the driver and contributed to the crash. Here’s what means.
Essentially, Texas law says that bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and other establishments can be responsible for contributing to an accident caused by someone they over-served. In that accident, for instance, security video showed the drunk driver stumbling around the place. He could barely walk to the bathroom without almost falling over. Despite these obvious signs of intoxication, the bar broke the law and continued serving him. As such, they were legally responsible for the resulting accident that nearly killed a young child.
That’s what I mean when I say a drunk driver causing a crash might not be the full story. There could be more evidence beyond the crash scene that needs to be preserved to ensure there will be full accountability for what happened. Ultimately, investigations might just show that this all rests on one person’s shoulders. At the end of the day, that’s up to the evidence to say for sure. Hopefully someone is looking into that evidence, whether it’s the authorities or independent professionals.
