How Did This Accident Occur?

Just because police decided to issue a citation to the truck driver for running a red light doesn’t mean he is the one who caused this accident. Police sometimes get things wrong in their initial assessment of the crash, although it doesn’t happen often.

Investigators will reconstruct the crash using measurements from the scene, data from the vehicles and any available video footage, but this accident deserves a deeper look. Does the truck driver have a history of accidents? Was he adequately trained to drive a semi-truck? Did the truck have a mechanical issue that affected its ability to brake?

I don’t claim to know the answers to these questions, but sorting them out should determine who accountable the trucking company or its maintenance provider may be for this crash.
