Reeves County, TX — January 27, 2025, Eduardo Rodriguez was fatally injured following a work accident at around 6:00 p.m. off of US Highway 285.
According to initial details about the accident from OSHA, it happened a few miles southeast of Pecos at a well site off US 285 and FM 1450.
OSHA said in their summary that 43-year-old Eduardo Rodriguez and another worker were checking a fracking pump at the time. While doing so, a line apparently ruptured, fatally injuring Eduardo Rodriguez. It appears the other worker was treated for injuries.
The cause of the accident was not confirmed in the OSHA summary, but they listed a recommended citation and penalty. Additional details are unavailable.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
OSHA is a necessary and helpful part of work safety, but it’s important that folks understand the limits of their efforts. Ultimately, Texas has more complex work fatality laws than any other state in the country. There is not always an automatic process for getting a worker’s family guaranteed benefits after an accident. Instead, families sometimes have to navigate a legal maze and provide their own evidence of what went wrong in an accident to get the resolution they deserve.
OSHA’s priorities are with their own efforts. They don’t often go out of their way to make sure they preserve the evidence families need for their own purposes. As such, families generally fare best when there are independent investigators looking out for their needs. Hopefully steps were taken early on here to dig beyond the surface and not simply rely on the efforts of OSHA to take care of everything.
