How Did This Accident Occur?
It is not clear at this point what caused this Ford to leave S.H. 347. Was the driver distracted, perhaps by a cell phone? Did another vehicle force the Ford off the road? Did it have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? In my experience, the best way to answer those questions is to wait until the investigation is done.
Investigators likely will look for answers by gathering witness statements, physical evidence, data from the car’s engine control module and any available video footage of the crash. Cell phone records could show what the driver was doing at the time.
If authorities suspect a mechanical issue caused this crash, an outside expert probably will be needed to conduct a forensic examination of the Ford. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for that kind of inspection.
A thorough investigation should provide a clear picture of what happened here.
