June 25, 2026, one person was injured due to an alleged DUI trucker accident that happened Thursday afternoon along US 17.
Preliminary information about the accident says that an 18-wheeler hauling a dump trailer was going along the highway. That vehicle reportedly crashed with two other vehicles, resulting in a fire.
One of the drivers hit by the truck was taken to the hospital. The truck driver allegedly fled the scene on foot, but authorities made an arrest. The suspect reportedly faces several charges, including hit-and-run, drunk in public, and driving without a CDL.

How Did This Accident Occur?
If the allegations surrounding this crash are true, a key question comes to mind: Who in the world hired this guy? It’s possible this was some independent trucker acting on his own that no one had a chance of stopping before something went wrong. However, I’ve seen many crashes like this where a negligent employer hires a driver without a proper background check or otherwise allows a known dangerous driver to work for them despite the risks. Oversights like this essentially allow dangerous drivers to put countless lives at risk. If that happened here, then holding the alleged drunk truck driver accountable for his actions might only be half the story. Without digging into how that driver got on the road in the first place, another one might just replace the first one and go on to cause further harm.
