Accident Report
February 20, 2026, one teen and one adult were injured in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 10:15 p.m. on State Highway 99.
According to authorities, a 16-year-old boy was traveling in a northbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on S.H. 99 in the vicinity northwest of S.H. 146 when the accident took place. Officials indicate that a head-on collision occurred between the pickup and a southbound Kia K5 occupied by a 41-year-old woman who had allegedly been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Both the teen from the Silverado and the woman from the Kia reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
There is one question that comes to my mind that might not be considered by most when they read about accidents like this one: where did the intoxicated driver get their alcohol?
It’s one think if they had been drinking at a private residence, but there are other implications that have to be considered if they were drinking at an establishment like a restaurant or a bar. Why? Because if the person who was drinking was already obviously intoxicated, but people continued to serve her drinks, then they bear a portion of the responsibility for what happened in the accident.
Let me know in a comment whether or not you think it is fair, but Texas Dram Shop Law is in place as a tool to be utilized in holding people accountable in situations like that. It does not minimize the responsibility held by the person who chose to drive in that condition; it extends the responsibility to all those who had a hand in the wreck, even if they were not physically at the scene. Hopefully, investigators think to look into where the woman obtained her alcohol before she decided to get behind the wheel of a vehicle.
