Waco, TX — June 30, 2025, five people were injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at around 6:00 p.m. along Highway 6.

Officials said that the incident took place in the area of Marlin Highway and Loop 340 in east Waco.

According to officials, a silver SUV was traveling along the highway. It appears a Ford F-150 pickup slammed into the back of that SUV. This sent an adult and three children from the SUV to the hospital. The driver of the pickup was also injured.

As of January 18, 2026, authorities say they arrested the pickup driver for allegedly driving while over three times the legal limit. Additional details remain unclear.

Someone being accused of driving over three times the legal limit is serious enough on its own without it apparently leading to a serious crash. Folks might think the announcement of charges means everything is being taken care of. However, I haven’t seen any mention of whether or not investigators found out where the alleged drunk driver go their alcohol from. It’s possible there’s a negligent alcohol provider who also needs to be held accountable here.

In Texas, bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and other establishments can be responsible if they unlawfully over-serve someone who then causes harm to others. Just as drunk drivers can be held accountable for breaking the law, so, too, can the negligent establishments handling their product irresponsibly. Not only does this help victims and families see full accountability for the harm done to them, but it also gets those establishments to clean up their act before more people get hurt.

So even if the allegations here are true, the charges against the alleged drunk driver may just be the tip of the iceberg. Further digging could show that this chain of events began not behind the wheel of a car but rather behind the bar.
