Atascosa County, TX — March 3, 2025, three people were injured as the result of a dog attack incident at around 4:30 p.m. along South Smith Street.
Reports say the incident happened south of San Antonio in the Pleasanton area at South Smith Street and West White Street, just off Main Street and Highway 97.
According to officials, a reportedly large dog attacked a man along with a woman and her daughter. Multiple people, including the owner, reportedly attempted to stop the attack. The dog reportedly went after others until authorities arrived. Police ultimately shot the dog.
Due to the accident, three people were taken from the scene with injuries. Conditions weren’t specified, but the man attacked by the dog reportedly lost a lot of blood. Right now, additional details are unavailable.

It might surprise folks how often I get asked about dog attacks. People wonder what can be done and whether or not animal owners are responsible for these kinds of accidents.
Generally speaking, Texas has a “One Bite Rule.” It’s based on the fact that at the end of the day, dogs are animals. It’s possible they’re fine until one day they end up hurting someone without ever having a history of violence. Owners generally aren’t responsible for that.
However, after that first incident, owners now have a responsibility to make sure their dog can’t harm anyone else. If an owner fails to take those precautions, and future incidents occur, the owner may be responsible for failing to restrain their dog. That’s why it’s important in these situations to find out if there have been other known incidents with the dog in question.
