Accident Report
March 17, 2026, a teenager was killed following a two-car accident that happened around 11:01 p.m. on Interstate 10.
Initial details about the accident from El Paso city officials say the crash happened along eastbound lanes of I-10 near Lee Trevino Drive. It appears that 33-year-old Joshua Rubio, 36-year-old Desiree Ramirez, a 15-year-old girl, and two young children were in a Ford Escape. They were going along I-10 when authorities say a Ford Mustang crashed into the back of the Escape.
Due to the collision, the 15-year-old in the vehicle with Joshua Rubio and Desiree Ramirez was killed. It’s unclear at this time if anyone else was injured.
Additional details about the crash are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
This late at night, it would be irresponsible not to consider the possibility that alcohol may have played a role in the crash. While that may seem like an obvious factor officials would include in the initial reports, drunk driving accidents can be quite complex. I’ve handled hundreds of them, and sometimes investigations have to consider both the drunk driver and a negligent alcohol provider if the driver was unlawfully over-served.
But if alcohol wasn’t a factor here, it could be anything from unsafe speeds to distracted driving to faulty brakes to some unusual, unavoidable set of circumstances. What’s important in these early days is that the victims and families can feel confident that evidence is being preserved so they can get help and see accountability for what happened, if appropriate.
