Accident Report
Houston, TX — March 19, 2026, Denise Kirk and Joseph Kirk were injured in a car accident at about 2:45 a.m. on the entrance ramp to State Highway 288/South Freeway.
A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2020 Toyota Camry rear-ended a 2009 Honda Odyssey with a U-Haul trailer as both vehicles were heading north from Airport Road.
Honda driver Denise Kirk, 69, and passenger Joseph Kirk, 74, were seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.
It is not clear if the Toyota driver was injured because the report does not include any information on the driver.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Harris County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
It’s easy to imagine that this crash happened because the Toyota driver was in a hurry, not paying attention to the vehicle ahead. But what if the Toyota had a mechanical problem that caused sudden acceleration? Or the U-Haul trailer it struck didn’t have working taillights? The only way to know for sure what happened on the South Freeway ramp is to wait until a full investigation is completed.
Investigators will gather evidence from the crash scene, witness statement, data from the vehicles and any available video footage as they work to reconstruct this accident. Cell phone records could show if the Toyota driver was distracted, but if authorities suspect a mechanical problem contributed to the crash an independent expert likely will be needed to examine the vehicles. In my experience, most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such work.
The key is to keep digging until there is enough information to prove how this accident happened.
