How Did This Accident Occur?

At first glance, it would be easy to assume this is an open-and-shut case of driver error. However, I have been in this line of business for over thirty years. In that time, I’ve learned not to jump to conclusions. After all, I’ve seen plenty of cases where, even though on the surface it seemed like human error was the root cause, investigations turned up evidence that proved otherwise.

In those cases, the investigators did a great job of not jumping to conclusions, digging deeper than the surface level evidence at the crash scene, and remaining meticulous and openminded. Hopefully the same is true in this case. If so, they will be able to unearth any underlying mechanical malfunctions or vehicle defects—such as steering column issues or tire blowout, for example—that might have been causal factors.

Should the authorities’ investigation seem to be lacking, though, a third party investigation can always step in to take up that slack. That way, all the bases are covered.
