If the allegations here are true, and authorities indeed have the right person facing charges, it’s extremely relieving to know there will be consequences for the victim and their loved ones. However, the story may not begin and end at the crash scene. It’s important authorities find out why the driver fled the scene. Rarely is it just out of panic about the accident.
In my experience, runaway drivers are often hiding something from authorities. It could be something simple, such as warrants. Or, it could be more complex, such as a drunk driver who was unlawfully over-served by a local bar, which could then lead to investigations into the establishment for violations of Texas liquor law.
Whatever the situation, families deserve more than just the easy explanation. They deserve to know they’re getting all the facts so they can make an informed decision about what next steps are best for them.
