How Did This Accident Occur?

The key question for investigators appears to be why did the truck stop in the express lanes of I-270? Did it break down? Or lose a tire?

Investigators also need to determine how much time elapsed before the Volkswagen crashed into the truck. Did the truck driver have time to put out flares or warning triangles, or just turn on its hazard lights?

These questions should be considered as authorities work to reconstruct this crash by looking at physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage.

If investigators determine the truck broke down, that warrants some scrutiny of the trucking company because it was responsible for ensuring the truck and its driver were roadworthy.

A thorough investigation will reveal what caused this accident, providing answers to any questions the Volkswagen driver’s family has after the crash.
