Daniel Cruces Killed in Hit-and-run Accident in Arlington, TX

It appears that 30-year-old Daniel A. Cruces was walking at the time and attempting to cross the roadway while in a crosswalk. While doing so, however, police say a black Honda Civic hit Cruces, then left the scene. Cruces died as a result. Afterward, authorities say they found the suspect vehicle unoccupied with “multiple alcohol containers.” It’s unclear if authorities have identified the driver.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

If all I’d seen in the news was a driver fleeing an accident at 2:00 a.m., I would say alcohol was a likely possibility. The fact authorities reportedly found alcohol in the vehicle, then, isn’t all that surprising. Drunk driving is a common reason drivers flee the scene, and it’s all the more reason to find whoever is responsible for this. Not only could they face serious consequences, but accidents involving alcohol also bring up challenging investigations into where the alcohol came from and if any negligent alcohol providers also need to be held accountable for the victim’s death. Hopefully authorities here are continuing to be thorough so nothing important slips through the cracks.
