Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

People don’t often give work accidents the attention they deserve, and the lack of public reports on this accident are no doubt a reflection of that. This sometimes leads people to believe that OSHA and workers’ comp take care of everything automatically. In reality, Texas has the most complex work fatality laws of any state in the country. This means that even after authorities do all of their investigations, a worker’s loved ones may still have unanswered questions and no clear path toward a fair resolution.

Usually, getting those things takes efforts from independent professionals who can prioritize the needs of the family and focus on more than just issuing fine recommendations and moving on. A proper, thorough investigation into a fatal work accident can help ensure families get clear answers and find a path through the Texas legal system that works best for them.
