Bexar County, TX — May 3, 2026, Crystal Llanas was injured in a single-vehicle accident at about 3:15 a.m. on Scenic Loop Road in Cross Mountain.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck, with its driver assistance unit engaged, was heading south when it left the road and crashed into a tree.

A passenger, 37-year-old Crystal Llanas, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report, while the driver, a 39-year-old man was not hurt.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Bexar County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It is not clear at this point why this Cybertruck left the road, but the part about this crash that caught my attention is the indication that the vehicle’s driver assistance system was active. Such systems are designed to keep drivers safe, even taking control when the vehicle’s computer perceives a problem. But if these systems are not programmed properly they could be tripped up by real-world situations.

Authorities should scrutinize data from the Tesla to see what its autonomous system was doing at the time of the crash. If it didn’t intervene when it should have, there could be an argument that the manufacturer could share some blame for this crash.
