How Did This Accident Occur?

A lot of people see a single-vehicle accident and just assume the driver made a mistake. That’s certainly common, given things like distracted driving and unsafe speeds. However, it’s important to get the whole story. Otherwise, crucial details could slip through the cracks.

For example, are there issues on this stretch of road? Potholes, uneven lanes, lack of signage or lighting, faded road markings, an unsafe speed limit—I rarely ever see authorities include these things in their investigations. A careful look at the road might just rule out these possibilities, but even that can be a crucial step for an accident investigation. If authorities have been more thorough here, that would be good to know. It’s just not the sort of thing I’d expect anyone to take for granted.
