Accident Report

Arlington, TX — March 25, 2026, a child was killed and Courtney Getz and another child were injured in a dump truck accident at about 12:30 a.m. on Interstate 20/Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway.

Authorities said a westbound 2014 Nissan Sentra crashed into the back of a 2006 Volvo dump truck near the interchange with U.S. Highway 287. The driver is thought to have been distracted by something in the back seat of the car before the collision.

Nissan driver Courtney Getz, 21, and her two children were hospitalized after the crash, according to authorities. A 6-year-old girl died there, while the driver and a 3-year-old girl were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The dump truck driver was not hurt, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Tarrant County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Authorities seem to be proceeding on the idea that the Nissan crashed into a dump truck because the driver was distracted, but what if that wasn’t the case?

Investigators should continue looking into other possible explanations for this crash, because in my experience initial impressions aren’t always correct. Maybe the dump truck stopped suddenly before the collision. Maybe the Nissan had a problem with its brakes. Was it a newer model with a crash avoidance system?

The only way to know for sure what happened here is to complete a full investigation, with a full mechanical investigation of the Nissan. That may be beyond the scope of authorities, if they don’t have time or training for such a probe.
