Accident Report

May 5, 2026, a Cookville woman was injured following a two-car accident that took place around 11:18 a.m. on US Highway 67.

Investigations say the accident happened between New Boston and Naples near the intersection of US 67 and County Road 4217.

Preliminary informtion suggests that the 77-year-old Cookville woman was in a Dodge Ram going eastbound on the highway. A 15-year-old girl reportedly was driving a Chrysler 200 westbound. The Chrysler reportedly failed to yield making a left turn, and the vehicles collided.

Due to the crash, the Cookville woman was seriously injured. The teen driver had possible injuries. Authorities recommended charges for the teen driver.

How Did This Accident Occur?

This might seem pretty straight-forward, considering authorities believe a teenage driver made a mistake. That’s not likely to turn anyone’s world upside-down. Teen drivers are certainly prone to mistakes, and maybe that happened here.

However, I’ve seen countless car accident investigations where authorities were too quick to move on from an investigation because the cause seemed obvious. This can lead to them missing important extenuating circumstances, such as vehicle defects, road hazards, alcohol, and other factors.

Regardless of what caused this accident, my hope is simply that investigations are thorough and fair. Hopefully that happens here, even if that means bring in independent investigators.
