Harris County, TX — December 12, 2025, a worker was killed as the result of a construction accident at around 7:30 a.m. on North Sam Houston Parkway West.
Investigators said that the accident took place off the corner of the North Sam Houston Parkway West and TC Jester Boulevard.
According to officials, a construction worker was operating a crane at the time. It appears the tow straps connecting the crane to a heavy object fails. As a result, that object fell onto the crane operator.
The victim sustained fatal injuries due to the accident. No other injuries were reported. Additional details are unavailable at this time.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
There are all kinds of questions that need to be answered after a work accident like this. Why did the straps fail? Was proper equipment provided to the workers by their employer? Did the equipment have defects, or did it fail to carry weight it was advertised to carry? Have there been other issues with safety on this site? Have incidents like this happened before?
A thorough investigation is important after any fatal accident. What makes that particularly important after a work fatality is Texas has the most complex work fatality laws of any other state in the country. Despite what many think, there isn’t always an automatic process for resolving work accidents through the workers’ comp system.
Not all employers have workers’ comp, as Texas law doesn’t require them to. This can leave families in a position where getting a resolution means going through the worker’s employer. In my experience, companies usually put their own needs before a family’s, which means keeping the scales balanced requires professionals who understand how to communicate with and otherwise anticipate the tactics of a company’s legal team.
As such, a worker’s family having as much evidence as possible telling the victim’s side of the story is a vital first step after accidents like this. Whatever path lies ahead for a family, having clear answers helps ensure they can navigate that path effectively.
