How Did This Accident Occur?
When vehicles going the same direction collide, it’s often due to things like inattention, unsafe speeds, or fatigue (especially early in the morning). What’s important, though, is that investigations cover even less common factors. Have authorities inspected the vehicles for defects? Did they examine the condition of the roadway? Is lighting or signage a problem in this area? Did a medical condition contribute to the crash? Have authorities pulled electronic data from the vehicles? Are there any nearby cameras that might show what happened?
These are just some of the questions I expect from a proper accident reconstruction. So, they tend to be good questions for families to ask the authorities. If they find authorities have satisfactory answers to these questions, it’s likely because authorities are taking the investigations seriously. But if authorities come up short, that may be a sign that independent professionals need to step in before something important slips through the cracks.
