Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

If it’s true that alcohol contributed to this accident, people might think this all will lead to charges for that driver, and that’ll be the end of things. Even if the investigations end there, however, there could be more to the story. It’s important to know where a drunk driver got their alcohol from and if a negligent alcohol provider contributed to the crash.

In Texas, it is unlawful for bars and other establishments to over-serve people who are obviously intoxicated. Doing so exposes those establishments to potential consequences if the intoxication leads to people getting hurt. So if authorities simply put all of the focus on the alleged drunk driver, they might miss an accomplice who also needs to be held accountable. Have investigations here covered that, or could there be more to this story that still needs attention?
