Accident Report

Baytown, TX — July 25, 2026, Christopher Engle was injured in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 4:20 p.m. on State Highway 146.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a northbound 2017 Volkswagen GTI allegedly ran a stop sign before it collided with a 2019 Dodge Challenger was turning left from Loop Road.

Dodge driver Christopher Engle was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.

The Volkswagen driver, a 55-year-old man who suffered minor injuries, was charged with intoxication assault after the crash, the report states.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Chambers County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

I wish I could say that I was certain that authorities would give this crash the attention it deserves, but unfortunately experience has proven that is not often the case.

Most law enforcement agencies follow the same path when investigating injury accidents — reconstructing the crash using vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and available video footage — but few take additional steps when one driver is proven to be intoxicated.

If that happens in this crash, authorities should look into where the Volkswagen driver had been drinking before the crash. That matters because under Texas law alcohol providers can share responsibility for injuries caused by patrons who are served while obviously intoxicated before they get behind the wheel.

I don’t know if that is what happened here, but the Dodge driver and his family deserve to know everyone who may have played a role in this accident.
